The stories covered in this weeks issue are:
1. Gozo Day was marked on October 29 in remembrance of archpriest Saver Cassar, who ruled Gozo for 22 months after the defeat of the French forces on October 28, 1798. Schoolchildren took part in a play at Independence Square, Victoria, while Year 5 Victoria primary school choir sang Innu lil Ghawdex, the Gozo College hymn and the national anthem.
2. Recently a group of 28 young persons from the Don Bosco Oratory were in Italy on an Exchange Youth Programme together with a group of youths from San Liborio in Rome. At Castel Gandolfo, the maltese group also met the secretary of Pope Benedict XVI, Gozitan-born Mgr. Alfred Xuereb, himself a past-pupil of the Don Bosco Oratory of Gozo.
3. A container with paintings by Gozitan children on one of its sides was recently on display at Sir Mikelangelo Refalo Centre for Further Studies in Victoria. The container left the Italian port of La Spezia on September 28 as part of The Adventures of a Great Container, a programme between schools in Gozo,Bastia and La Spezia. Intended for students to get to know more about other cultures, the programme features paintings of Gozo, the Corsican commune of Bastia and La Spezia on three of its sides. After Gozo, the container will tour various ports on the continent. Year 6 students attending Sir Arturo Mercieca primary school in Victoria, who were present for the occasion, were given gifts that Italian School children put inside the container for Gozitan children.
