The President of Malta H.E. Dr George Abela, as the chairperson of the Malta Community Chest Fund, announced that Vodafone Malta together with the Vodafone Malta Foundation donated €30,000 for L-Istrina 2010 which will take place on the 26th of December.

The sponsorship was announced by the outgoing CEO of Vodafone Malta Inaki Berroeta in the presence of the new CEO of the company Balesh Sharma and the members of the Vodafone Malta Foundation, the Deputy British High Commissioner Ms Carole Johnson, Mr Karmenu Vella, Mr Martin Gregory and Ms Roberta Pace.

Vodafone Malta together with the Vodafone Malta Foundation have been strong supporters of the Malta Community Chest Fund (MCCF) throughout the years. Over the years, as part of its corporate social responsibility programme, the Vodafone Malta Foundation has donated over €2 million to different organizations. Out of these over €98,000 were donated to the Malta Community Chest Fund.

During the same event Vodafone Malta presented its third Corporate Social Responsibility Report which is its first audited report. Data related to energy efficiency and employee contribution to charity schemes contained in the report which covers the period between April 1, 2008 and March 31, 2010 was audited by PricewaterhouseCoopers, Malta.

The President of Malta Dr George Abela said that Vodafone Malta and the Vodafone Malta Foundation have always supported the Malta Community Chest Fund. He further sustained that the company has a high corporate social responsibility approach in the way it carries out its operations. He further stated that Vodafone’s support will help the Malta Community Chest Fund reach its aims during this year’s l-Istrina.

Outgoing Vodafone Malta CEO, Inaki Berroeta said that Vodafone Malta is committed in offering continuous support to the Maltese Community and to the Malta Community Chest Fund. “I personally consider the Malta Community Chest Fund as being the backbone of social cooperation and solidarity in Malta. As we did in the past, this year again, we are contributing to this campaign because we truly believe in the objectives and aims set, so that the Maltese society as a whole would be able to benefit,” stated Inaki Berroeta.

Meanwhile, Balesh Sharma, Vodafone’s new CEO pledged his commitment to continue providing continuous support to the Malta Community Chest Fund in the years to come. “Vodafone Malta will continue building on the trust that it already has with the Maltese Community. I can assure you that we will continue to act responsibly in all the things we do. We are committed in being a responsible citizen in our community so that in turn we would help the Maltese society at large, particularly the under privileged,” stated Balesh Sharma.
