The UHM has announced that it has ordered direct industrial action in the Salaries Section of the Ministry for Gozo.

The union said that the situation materialised after no resolution was met following several meetings,as well as e-mails, correspondence and reminders with the Ministry for Gozo. The UHM went on to say that on the 19th of October, 2010 it had ordered industrial action to improve the situation of these workers.

The statement from the UHM said that after conciliatory meetings with the Public Administration Collective Bargaining Unit (PACBU), it had requested a response within one week, from the 21st of December, 2010 to resolve the situation, however, nothing had been heard to date.

The UHM said that it believes that the best solution to the anomalies that exist are that they should be resolved through discussions around the negotiating table, but in veiw of the fact that it had made several attempts to address these problems and with no willingness on the part of PACBU to respond, then the UHM had no alternative but to order these actions within the salaries section in the Ministry for Gozo, as shown below:

1. Not to take part in the new work schemes called Dakar System or Parallel Run,

2. Not to use means of communication, to include: 1) mobiles 2) pagers 3) fax 4) telephones 5) e-mail will be used only to receive the Form A’s. 6) Receiving queries and the queries that arrive by mail that are not generic or answers when questioned by higher grades or other workers.

3. Go slow

The UHM concluded by saying that “surprise strikes could also be included from time to time, according to its wishes, which did not exclude further industrial action in other sections.
