Heritage Malta is organising a heritage and nature walk at the Qammieh Peninsula in Mellieha. This walk will cover different aspects of our heritage which includes the geology and historic buildings and structures. The walk will start from near St Agatha’s Tower, popularly known as the Red Tower, and then proceed towards the western tip of Qammieh.
Along the way participants will have a bird’s eye view of the Ghadira Graben (valley) a geological structure within which one finds the Ghadira Nature Reserve. They will also have an opportunity to learn about the agricultural practices and ecology of the area and will also visit the Latnija karstic doline (a collapsed cave) in the middle of the garrigue.
The group will then proceed towards the tip of the island to view the geological features such as the cliffs, boulder and rubble screes of the western coast of Malta as well as the southern coasts of Comino and Gozo. The event will take place on Sunday, the16th of January. Participants are to meet in front of the Phoenicia Hotel at 08.45 hrs and will return there at 12.00 hrs.
