Provisional data indicate that the industrial producer price index edged up by 0.4 per cent in February when compared to January.

Monthly comparison In February, the producer price index for total industry went up by 0.4 per cent, primarily as a result of an increase in producer prices of 0.7 per cent in the intermediate goods sector. Furthermore, a rise of 0.1 per cent in consumer goods was recorded.

Producer prices in the domestic market edged slightly up, due to a rise of 0.9 and 0.2 per cent in intermediate and consumer goods respectively.

During this month, prices for the non-domestic market went up by 0.5 per cent on account of a 0.6 per cent increase in prices for intermediate goods. The other main industrial groupings within the non-domestic market remained stable.

Producer prices in respect of goods destined for the euro area went up by 0.4 per cent, reflecting an increase of 0.5 per cent in prices for intermediate goods.

Prices for goods destined for the non-euro area went up by 1.3 per cent, marked by increases in intermediate goods (+2.1 per cent) and partly offset by a decline of 0.2 per cent within the consumer goods sector.

Year-on-year, producer prices for total industry increased by 3.7 per cent. During this period, producer prices of intermediate goods registered a rise of 5.6 per cent, with energy and consumer goods going up by 0.2 and 4.0 per cent respectively. A decline of 0.3 per cent within the capital goods sector was recorded.

Producer prices within the domestic market moved up by 0.8 per cent. Intermediate goods, energy and consumer goods rose by 6.7, 0.2 and 0.5 per cent respectively, whereas capital goods fell by 10.2 per cent.

In the year under review, producer prices for goods destined for the non-domestic market advanced by 5.6 per cent on account of price increases in the euro and non-euro area, of 5.8 and 4.1 per cent respectively.
