The Central Bank of Malta has issued a numismatic coin as part of the Europa Programme ‘Explorers.’ This coin will be available in gold and silver versions with a face value of €50 and €10 respectively.

Although the exact date of the Phoenicians’ arrival in Malta is not known, it is historically accepted that they occupied the Maltese Islands about the 8th century B.C. A Phoenician oar-driven vessel and the ‘Europa Star,’ which is the official logo of the programme, are depicted on the reverse side of the coin.

Face value: €10

Diameter: 38.61 mm

Weight: 28.28 grms

Alloy: 0.925

Quality: Proof

Minting Limit: 10,000 coins

Gold version:

Face Value: €50

Diameter: 21 mm

Weight: 6.5 grms
