The Ministry for Gozo has said that it refutes the "unfounded allegations" made today in a statement issued by the opposition spokesman for Gozo, Dr Anton Refalo.
The Ministry said that in recent years it has continued with the work on several large projects that are improving the quality of life in Gozo, through increased and improved services in all socio-economic areas.
The Ministry went on to say that over the past year apart from the new boys secondary school that was opened in Victoria, the establishment of a new Radiology Department has raised the standards and health services for everyone in Gozo, The work on the new operating theatre required detailed planning to ensure that the hospital continued to function as smoothly as possible without interruptions, to reduce the inconvenience for both patients and staff.
The Ministry said "the projects referred to in this morning’s statement are those that involve heavy investment in services, works and supplies which are required to undergo a process of tendering that can take some time. Despite the slanderous attacks that Dr Refalo continually makes on the process of awarding these contracts, it has has never been found that there were any irregularities, despite appeals made in respect of some of them. This shows the transparent and fair manner in which bids are awarded following calls for tenders for projects by the Ministry for Gozo. The fact that it did not lose any funding from European funds shows that the works were carried out as needed in all stages, from application to finishing the project."
The Ministry concluded by saying that "Investment was never so strong in Gozo as in recent years, roads were being completed, as well as other works carried out. The Gozo Centre for Arts and Crafts continued to develop into a center of creativity and innovation, maximizing the entire space to serve as a center for lifelong learning. Evidence of this are seen at the exhibitions mounted by the centre throughout the year. An overall ongoing attendance of 1,247 participants in 55 course is valid testimony that demonstrates the great interest on the part of the participants of all ages. Everything done to date reinforces the commitment of the Ministry for Gozo to continue with its ongoing work, which will result in the execution of even more projects for Gozo."
When you speak to local people they are usually in agreement that the Gozo Ministry are incompetent. So my question is why are they still there earning the big bucks if they can’t do the job?
I think the opposition have nothing to do only complain. When they were in power what did they do in Gozo!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NOTHING. We were forgotten.

Do you remember Xewkija industrial estate loads of workers used to work there.
What about the streets? Today our streets are far worse than 30 years ago except the newly recent roads like Mgarr to Ghajnsielem, Xlendi (still not finished), Ta Pinu etc and mind you they all ended up costing us tax payers like you twice the original amount.
What about the housing estates Tac Cawla and the free blocks of land offered by Dom Mintoff .
The list is endless.

You don’t say nothing about the new school for your kids and my kids that they build and what about the learning centres. And I think you should open your eyes about the streets in Gozo and how much Gozo improve after 30 years. Shame on you.

About time we have two new roads and a new school. Remember that PN has been in Govt for more than twenty five years.
You said that Gozo has improved after 30 years. What has improved the amount of work that has been created? Or haven’t you noticed lately that most of the young people in Gozo have left the island because they cannot find any decent jobs and Gozo is becoming an island for the elderly at a very fast pace.
I strongly believe that in 25 years alot more SHOULD HAVE BEEN DONE FOR US GOZITANS.
Another point, I think it is the PL’s job to point out what is going on. Or should we have a dicatorship country and no one can criticize? I would like to know if PN are in opposition, would they critisize the PL?
