Total of operations up by more than 2,000 cases from 2007

The Ministry of Helath said in a statement this morning that statistics collected in the first quarter of 2011 shows that the constant work to reduce time waiting for Mater Dei Hospital operations are to be effective.
The total operations for the first three months of this year was 10,761, an increase of 2202 over the total of operations at St. Luke’s Hospital in 2007 (8559). The increase was seen month by month as well as overall.In the first three months of this year, an increase in the number of elective operations had risen to 84%. Of these 1068 were for the eye and 1033 were in orthopedics.
The Minister of Health, the Elderly and Community Care, Joe Cassar, gave his heartfelt thanks to all the workers and the management of Mater Dei Hospital for the success and increased effieiency in this area.
