The National Youth Council on the occasion of the May Day celebrations said it would like to give due recognition to those youths who whilst working to earn a living are at the same time giving an important contribution to civil society in Malta. Thanks to this contribution, all members of society benefit from a better quality of life.

The National Youth Council said it considers that work is the youth’s duty which helps the youth to become mature and form a firm character which would enable him to face his own daily challenges. Youth employment is also an important tool to sustain social inclusion within society. Thus as KNZ we believe in the right to work for all youths as a means by which the indivudual feels fruitful and a benefactor to society. One should praise the collective work which took place in this country to protect and create more jobs in a period where Europe was going through an economic crisis and recession, which made our country one of those states with the lowest rates of unemployment.

“On this day we recognise the importance that education continues to remain free. This is a fundamental support for the youths’ professional formation without having to carry its economic burden. We also take this opportunity to call all the public and private entities which are concerned with youth employment to cooperate together to protect both the right of each individual to work and the duty of each and every youth to offer his services to society. We also encourage these entities to continue to invest more in paid or unpaid training schemes to all young workers who need this kind of help,” concluded KNZ.
