Last weekend for the first time in Gozo, the Puttinu Cares Gozo Committee organised the Puttinu Cares Gozo Sports Weekend, a large-scale activity which took place in several localities in Gozo in aid of Puttinu Cares, the organisation which helps children and people who are suffering from cancer.

€ 20,000 was raised over the last week and presented to Puttinu Cares Gozo during the football marathon.

The weekend got underway with a mass for all Gozitan youths and sports people at the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Ta’ Pinu. Children from all schools in Gozo were present as well as Thomas Cremona, the Maltese youngster who when younger fought cancer and who had recently crossed the Atlantic on a boat to raise funds. The closing ceremony was held at the Sannat football ground with a show by Gozitan artists including Morena and Cash & Band. There was also face painting, a bouncy castle and Disney characters for the children, football, and Giochi Senza Frontieri.

Tthe Eco-Gozo teachers who during the year organised several extra-curricular activities within the Gozo College, orgainsed the Aerial Runway – Flying Fox, which attracted many young people.
