On Monday, the 6th of June, the Regional Committee for National Celebrations together with the Xaghra Local Council organised a commemorative ceremony to salute the memory of the Sette Giugno riots’ victims amongst them Guzeppi Bajada from Xaghra.

The commemoration began with the Celebration of Holy Mass at the Collegiate Basilica of the Nativity of Our Lady at 5pm. This was led by Archpriest Mgr Carmelo Refalo. Afterwards, at around 6pm, a commemorative ceremony was held in front of Guzeppi Bajada’s monument in Bullara street.

Present for this ceremony were members of the Committee for National Celebrations together with Xaghra Mayor, Joe Cordina, councilor Mary Carmen Bajada, Archpriest Mgr Carmelo Refalo and representatives from the various social organisations in Xaghra.

The activity ended with the laying of wreaths in front of the monument and the singing of the Maltese national anthem, lyrics by Dun Karm Psaila and music by Mro. Robert Sammut.
