This morning, the EU Commissioner for the Environment, Janez Potocnik, met a delegation from the Council of the Federation for Hunting & Conservation – Malta (FKNK) at Dar l- Ewropa in Valletta.

The Commissioner was accompanied by Marie-Claude Blin, Deputy Head of Unit Infringements, and Benedicte Caremier from the Commissioner’s Cabinet. The FKNK’s delegation was led by its President, Joe Perici Calascione, together with Lino Farrugia, Secretary General and Joseph Buttigieg, PRO. The Head of Representation of the European Commission in Malta, Martin Bugelli, was also present for the Meeting.

The FKNK said a very cordial discussions centred round the EU “Birds” Directive and its correct implementation on local hunting practices, and the Commission’s role as guardian of the Treaties.

At the end of the Meeting the FKNK officials presented the Commissioner with a limited edition Print depicting a couple of blue-rock thrushes, Malta’s National bird.
