The Gozo Universtiy Group (GUG) said that it would like to wish all prospective students who will be studying in Malta all the luck in their new upcoming scholastic year and in all their studies. GUG continued by saying that it also hopes that the new transport service will be efficient and effective.

GUG commented that it is in “constant contact with Arriva coordinators to represent Gozitan students’ inquiries and to make sure that each individual student’s voice is heard.” GUG continued, “one of our several aims is to ensure that the best possible bus route and timetable from Cirkewwa to Msida and vice versa is issued; one which caters for every student’s needs.”

“So far there were several questions with regards to the old bus route and timetable, since Gozitan students could not benefit from its use and was not helpful to their daily necessities,” GUG went on, “this has caused quite a commotion and as a result, GUG worked accordingly to amend this matter as soon as possible. After several negotiations with the Arriva coordinators, the old bus route was changed, together with the timetable of the X1 bus.”

On this note, GUG said that it would “like to honestly thank the Arriva coordinators for taking this issue at heart. They pledged that they would help cease this issue without further adding concern and distress, and they did so. Nonetheless, we worked on making the X1 bus a more frequent one so as to make sure that students do not have to wait too long for the next bus, in order to catch the corresponding ferry.”

GUG said that the new X1 timetable “it shows the efffort made in combining the bus service with the Gozo ferry. Since the ferry is every 45 minutes and lectures are every hour it was quite a challenge to make them both perfectly aligned. As an end result, they are increasing frequency of X1 from every 60 minutes to every 45 minutes to fit into the ferry schedule; thus making Gozitans’ chance of returning home quicker and effective.”

“GUG’s sole purpose is to give Gozitan students what they truly deserve; a trouble free life in Malta where going back home is the least of their concerns,” GUG continued, “venturing away from home and our familiars to further our studies is hard enough, so we will keep making sure that their stay in Malta is welcoming.”

GUG concluded by saying that it “has plenty of aims and we are fulfilling them a step at a time. Our next objective is to contact the Gozo Channel Company and discuss what needs to be done to give students a more favourable and accessible trip.”
