A public lecture, which will be of particular interest to archaeology and history enthusiasts, is taking place this coming Monday, and will be will be delivered by world renowned archaeologist, Dr David Trump U.O.M.

The lecture, entitled, ‘Gozo’s Archaeology, the personal experiences of Dr David Trump,’ is taking place at the Conference Hall, Ministry for Gozo, St Francis Square, Victoria, on Monday, the 9th February, starting at 6.30pm.

Dr. Trump has been involved in the local archaeological scene for decades. He first visited Malta in 1954 to assist John Evans with excavations at Ggantija. From 1958 to 1963 he was Curator of Archaeology at the National Museum of Malta and also excavated on a number of sites including Skorba.

After he returned to Cambridge, he kept visiting Malta regularly, usually leading groups of archaeological students. From 1986 to 1994 he dug with the team which excavated the Xaghra Circle.

Since retirement from his teaching post at Cambridge, he has continued his research in Malta and has published various articles and books relating to the subject.

In 2004 Dr. Trump was appointed Honorary Officer of The National Order of Merit of the Republic of Malta.

The lecture is organised by the Gozo Culture and Information Office.
