The Vice-Chairman of the Libyan National Transitional Council has said that Colonel Muammar Gaddafi has been killed today during fierce fighting in his hometown of Sirte.

This news came after the forces had claimed complete control of Sirte, following weeks of fierce fighting.

His body was then reportedly transported to Misratah from Sirte.

NATO confirmed that a target convey was struck this morning near Sirte, but has not said if the convoy had contained Colonel Gaddafi or any members of his family. It was following this strike by NATO that the freedom fighters located Gaddafi and killed him.
