Around 260 persons with a disability currently attending the Sapport Day Services participated in the 11th consecutive fun day organised by volunteers from the Methodians’ Help Fund within Methode Electronics Malta Ltd. who dedicated their time to support and organise the event Fun for All.
Present for Fun for All were Mr. Gaetano Barbara, President Methodians’ Help Fund; Ms. Sina Bugeja, Chief Executive Officer Foundation for Social Welfare Services; Mr.Marcel Pisani, Chief Operations Officer, Agenzija Sapport; and Mr. Mauro Farrugia, Services Manager, Agenzija Sapport. Also present for this event were St. Martha’s Day Centre, from Victoria, Gozo.
The event was packed with sports and fun activities, organized by the committee members of the Methodians’ Help Fun together with staff from Agenzija Sapport. This annual event not only facilitates integration between the clients attending the different day centres, but also between the clients and members of the public, in this case the employees of Methode Electronics Ltd. Agenzija Sapport would like to show its gratitude towards the Methodians’ Help Fund for its yearly support in organizing this activity – a much-awaited activity by the Agency’s clients.
Fun for All also forms part of the integration programme for persons with disability receiving this service, which includes regular events and ongoing skills development activities within the Day Services. Persons with disability have a lot to offer, and society has an obligation to appreciate their qualities. Through the participation and contribution of these people, the community at large is enriched. This event is also another example of a private-public partnership and how it is vital for the inclusion of persons with disability within society.
The role of the Sapport Day Services is to strive to advocate for and promote such involvement. Currently there are 9 Day Centres in Malta located in Paola, Santa Venera, Hal Far, Fleur de-Lys, M’Scala, Swatar, Birgu and 2 at Imtarfa, which give a service to over 400 clients coming from various localities.
