Transport Malta said that yesterday it contiuned to monitor the public transport service noting marked improvements throughout the network.
“On the third day since the route changes implemented on the 6th November, Transport Malta reported normal service with no people left stranded on previously problematic routes – Birzebbuga (Route 82), St. Paul’s Bay (Route 41), Siggiewi (Route 62) and Naxxar (Route 31). The improvement noted by the Authority on Route 82 has been significant and the extension of the service to cover the Tal-Papa area in Birzebbuga has been positively received by residents of the area.
Problems with delays or buses turning up full were experienced in Fgura (Route 91) between 0810hrs and 0840 hrs, Luqa (Routes 71/72) at 0730hrs and Birgu (Routes 2) at 0700hrs and 0830hrs however, upon notification by Transport Malta, additional buses were dispatched by Arriva directly to these areas to provide the required capacity.”
With respect to specific route changes introduced from 6th November Transport Malta said it has received positive feed back. An Mgarr resident described the amended Route 44 as being “an efficient public transport service that we can make use of and arrive at our destination on time”. A Mellieha resident advised that “today I caught the Mater Dei (Route 232) and I found it to be punctual”. A student residing in Attard and attending the Junior College commented positively on the amended Route 54 linking Attard to Valletta via Sta Venera and advised that “this morning like many others it took me 20-25 minutes less to get to Junior College.”
Transport Malta said that motorists also have noticed and reported a much more efficient flow along a previously problematic route – Tal-Barrani, Vjal l-Addolorata and Triq Aldo Moro in the direction towards Marsa. It has to be remarked that the traffic lights in Marsa have been re-timed allowing for a better flow of traffic.
Transport Malta concluded by saying that it would like to thank the Police for their continuous support in assisting with traffic management at key junctions throughout the network.
