Flimkien ghal Ambjent Ahjar (FAA), is celebrating Italo-Maltese artistic links on the occasion of the 150th Anniversary of Italian Unification with an art exhibition entitled ‘Red, White … and Green’, to be inaugurated by the Ambassador of Italy to Malta H.E. Luigi Marras on the 12th of November at the Italian Cultural Institute, St. George’s Square, Valletta.

Emvin Cremona, Esprit Barthet, Vincent Apap, Giuseppe Arcidiacono, Gabriel Caruana and Ganni Bonnici, these leading names in Maltese art speak to us of one of the most exciting periods of Maltese art when Malta was waking up to ‘modern art’ in the ’60s and ’70s. Add to those, other artists like Luciano Micallef, Pawl Carbonaro, Harry Alden and Ray Pitre, or the lesser known but highly regarded Carmelo Mangion.

A line-up of artists of this calibre is usually associated with an exhibition put up by a bank or leading institution, and yet this time it is Flimkien ghal Ambjent Ahjar (FAA), a voluntary group working to raise awareness of Maltese heritage, that has pulled all the stops to bring this unique collection together.

Other artists with links to Italy that are bound to intrigue include the little-known Louis Wirth, who spent a lifetime painting but rarely ever exhibited and whose talent is being discovered after his death. Richard Saliba, Richard England, Mary de Piro, John Martin Borg and Zoe Chomarat complete the Malta collection while well-known Italian artists like Franco Matania and Gero Urso make this a veritable artistic feast not to be missed.

The ‘Red, White … and Green’ art exhibition is being curated by Marquis Nicholas de Piro and all profits from exhibition the will go to help FAA in the setting up of a Malta Culture and Heritage website which will document Malta’s history, art, architecture and culture to encourage students to appreciate their heritage. This website will also serve to attract cultural tourists to Malta.

The Exhibition will be open for the public from Monday 14th November until the 8th of December, weekdays from 10am to 1.30pm and 2.30pm to 5pm. On Thursdays until 7pm and Saturdays 10am until 1pm.
