Alternattiva Demokratika – The Green Party has welcomed government’s decision to accept its proposal for the creation of the post of ‘Guardian of Future Generations.’ This has been done through the publication of a Bill (Bill No. 95) on Sustainable Development published last Tuesday.
Michael Bruguglio, AD Chairman stated that “AD submitted this proposal through its spokesman on Sustainable Development who participated in the consultation exercise carried out by Parliamentary Secretary Mario de Marco.”
Carmel Cacopardo, AD spokesman on Sustainable Development and Home Affairs said that, “the acceptance by government of AD’s proposal is a positive step.” However, added Cacopardo, “the Bill can still be improved in order that it achieves the aims for which it has been presented.”
Michael Briguglio concluded by stating that “AD augurs that Parliament considers and approves the Bill at the earliest opportunity in order that necessary structures and mechanisms are created. This is urgently required as a result of the fact that government disbanded the National Commission for Sustainable Development years ago without creating an alternative.”
