Heavy rain and thunderstorms hit the Maltese islands this morning. The Civil Protection Department had issued a statement earlier today urging motorists to avoid low-lying areas that are normally prone to flooding.
Gozo and Comino had about 3 hours of prolonged heavy rain, causing some areas of the island to flood, particularly in Marsalforn and Xlendi.
A very heavy hailstorm hit Gozo at about midday turning some parts of the island white.
The photograph above was sent in by Gozo News reader Terry Stride, it captures the stormy scene across Gozo and Comino, with Malta visible in the distance.

This is only half the story, more place were flooded, trafic almost came to a stand still, and lotes of cars had to be abanded. Farmers crops, were flattened and trees have been striped of fruit and leaves, many fields are water logged.
our car now has small dents like a golf ball on the roof lol luckily it is an old one. worst storm since we came to live here in 2003
