Heritage Malta, for the third year running, will be organising the popular event Destination Art. This event, celebrating art, literature, and music, will take place on Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th of December at the National Museum of Fine Arts in Valletta. This might well be the last chance to see the National Museum of Fine Arts for free, within its current location, before its prospective move to Auberge d’Italie.
As part of this event held over two days, on Saturday 3rd of December, the successful series Art & Wine @ South Street will be held within the same museum. This event will feature artist Pierre Portelli and composer Albert Garzia, who shall discuss the sense of sound and follow up on their recent project ‘spokes’. If you are after a good relaxing discussion over a glass of wine and wondering if bicycles can be musical instruments and evoke shapes and designs as art forms, then this is an event to be present for. The National Museum of Fine Arts shall open its door for free to the public at 19.30hrs.
On Sunday 4th of December, the National Museum of Fine Arts will host a multitude of events free of charge to the general public. Graffiti artist shall also be present all day in the loggia’s upper passageways. Visitors shall be invited to paint and produce their own graffiti on the purposely prepared boards.
During the morning hours, musical excerpts by Corazon shall accompany book launches of publications by Emanuel Mifsud, Charles Qasha and Chali Zarb. These book launches shall take place from 10.00 till 12.30. From 13.00 onwards, the museum shall host a number of events, including comics design by Fabio Agius within the Baroque Galleries, pot throwing by Rossella Schembri within the Loggia, and facepainting. Additionally, Paul Caruana, a resident artist currently exhibiting inside the Loggia, will be helping children preparing their own watercolours.
For those who perhaps never ventured into the world of art, maybe for lack of knowledge on the subject, special tours of the collection, accompanied by animated characters in costume, shall take place as scheduled on Sunday at 3:30p.m. and 4:00p.m.
Midsea Books and the Manoel Theatre are the main sponsors of Destination Art 2011 event. For further information, please call 21225769.
