“The first Open Day at the Wied Ghollieqa was considered a success,” Nature Trust Malta said. People who visited this small reserve situated between the Village of Kappara and the University of Malta had the opportunity to see the work done by Nature Trust (Malta) on this site managed by the same NGO since 1990. The people also managed to see the Reserve visitors centre where thousands of students visit each scholastic year to learn about habitats and the fauna and flora of the valley.

During the guided walks that were available the visitors observed the numerous species of indigenous trees in the area including the National Tree of Malta (Sandarac Gum Tree), learnt how rubble walls are constructed and also got a flavour of how a nature reserve is managed.

The organisation also sold products it makes from the site such as Pure Honey, Carob syrup cooked the traditional way, capers, lemon Jam etc. Hampers where also sold during the event, proceeds of which will go towards the maintenance of this reserve

Persons interested in purchasing Hampers and helping the environment may contact Nature Trust (Malta) on info@naturetrustmalta.org or phone on 2131315
