Producer prices on agricultural products in Q3 down 7%

During the third quarter, producer prices for agricultural output went down by 7.0 per cent, while input prices added 13.6 per cent when compared to the corresponding period last year.
The producer price index for agricultural products decreased by 7.0 per cent, from 119.75 points in the third quarter of 2011 to 111.32 points in the corresponding quarter this year.
A drop of 29.7 per cent was registered in the fresh vegetables price index, resulting from a general increase in the supply of fresh vegetables in the third quarter. Lower producer prices were recorded for water melons (-57.8 per cent), sugar melons (-56.9 per cent) and tomatoes (-19.1 per cent). On the other hand, the price of onions rose by 61.8 per cent.
During the period under review, the fruit price index declined by 7.4 per cent. This was mainly due to a decrease in prices fetched for peaches (-53.5 per cent).
The animal slaughtering index went up by 1.8 per cent over the comparative period as higher prices were registered for cows (+14.8 per cent) and bulls (+13.1 per cent). Similarly, the animal products index rose by 11.7 per cent on account of higher producer prices fetched for milk (+16.6 per cent) and eggs (+1.5 per cent).
In the third quarter of 2011, the input price index for agriculture advanced by 13.6 per cent to 139.41 points.
The goods and services index, which registers movements in running costs, rose by 14.4 per cent over the comparative period last year. This was mainly attributed to higher prices of animal feeding stuffs (+24.5 per cent) and motor fuels (+22.4 per cent). A decline of 1.8 per cent was registered in the prices of other goods and services.
The machinery and investment index went up by 3.3 per cent on account of higher prices paid for materials (+3.8 per cent) while the buildings index added 2.8 per cent over the third quarter last year.
