In response to the recent urgent blood appeal by the Blood Bank, the Emergency Response and Rescue Corps Volunteers organised the fourth Gozo blood drive of 2011, which took place last wednesday.
About fifteen volunteers attended. Some of whom were also first time blood donors.
The E.R.R.C. wishes to thank the Gozo General Hospital, Blood Donation Department and would also like to urge the general public to donate blood.
Blood donation is sometimes taken for granted or ignored.
The more blood donors the better. When donating blood people are helping others and having the chance to help save lives.
The Blood Donation Department at the Gozo General Hospital opens from 8.00am to 11.30am from Monday to Friday and Saturday, from 8.00am till 11.00am.
The Donation Area also opens on Sundays every five weeks, for blood collection. It is planned to be open on Sunday, the 15th of January 2012, between 8.30am and 13.00pm.
Apart from the organised blood donation day, a group of volunteers from the E.R.R.C. also recently visited residents at the Male and Female Geriatric wards at the Gozo General Hospital.
One of the volunteers dressed up as Mother Christmas for the occasion and Christmas gifts were distributed. All residents welcomed the volunteers who created a joyful Christmas atmosphere in the wards.
