The year 2012 is starting off well for local artist Vince Caruana. After realising the completion of eight bronze relief designs last year, Vince has put his mark on yet another distinctive project. An 11 feet mural painting adorns the main façade of the newly built conference hall of the Ghajnsielem Local Council Civic Centre. A design in stained glass leading to the same hall is also the work of Vince Caruana.
The detailed mural represents a rich tapestry of archeological and historical treasures fabricated by time in this village. It encompasses elements from the Prehistoric era to the 17th century Fort Chambray’s Main Gate and the Hain Salem. The Mgarr harbour with the wooden coffee and rest-house marks the 19th century, followed by the two churches that forms the village of Ghajnsielem as we know it today. The local motto Ob Fontem Prosperitas confines all the features.
His well-known artistic characteristics of transparent geometrical planes, gauzy veils of light, and vibrant colours are yet the trademarks of this mural. It seems that Caruana is gaining his momentum and leaving his mark in mural painting as well, as this marks the third one in a row of large-scale murals.
This project was inaugurated on the 3rd of March, 2012 by the Prime Minister of Malta, Dr. Lawrence Gonzi.
