Gaulitana: A Festival of Music continued last Wednesday with a completely different type of concert.

The musico-spiritual event ‘Reflections for Holy Week,’ was specifically planned for these holy days and the only item on the programme was The Mystical Story of Christ, a 7-movement musical depiction of episodes from the Gospels for piano solo and 2 narrators by Italian composer Federico Gozzelino.

The Maltese pianist Veronique Vella interpreted the score and the narrators, who read the Gospel readings prior to each movement, were Bristish actors Sue Scantleberry and Paul Barnes. A powerpoint presentation added to the atmosphere during the evening.

Guest of honour for the evening was the composer himself, Federico Gozzelino, who travelled from Italy specifically for the concert, together with Italian journalist Prof Adriano Villata. Also present for the event was Mr Anton Tabone.

The concert – and the whole festival – was featured on the Italian website Verso l’Arte, which is used to promote the arts.
