The main wall in the entrance of the girls’ secondary school at the Bishop’s Conservatory has been decorated with a 5 metre mosaic mural of life under the sea, entitled, ‘Mozajk taht il-Bahar – Tizwiqa tal-Hajja Marittima Madwarna,’ The colours of the mosaic, which is made out of ceramic and glass tiles and other media, typically depict a local marine scene.

This idea was made possible through the ‘Kreattiv’ project led by the Ministry of Tourism, Environment and Culture, with its ‘Funds for Cultural Operators,’ aiming to promote creativity and culture among Maltese and Gozitan students.

This mosaic mural was inaugurated on Friday by the Minister for Gozo, Giovanna Debono, also present were H.L. Mons. Mario Grech, Bishop of Gozo and Dr Rose Anne Cuschieri, Director of Educational Services of the Church Schools. In the audience were the Head of school, Ms Rita Sultana, the students who participated in the project and their teachers.

The Minister congratulated the school for the presentation of the application for the project, which resulted in its selection and approval to receive financial assistance for the creation of the mosaic mural.

The project was carried out in collaboration with Nadur artist Mary Portelli, who has in recent years gained a reputation for this kind of work in various shapes and sizes. Mary was assisted by the school’s art teacher, Jason Farrugia together with the students attending Form 4.
