The Feast of Our Lady of Mt Carmel was celebrated in Xlendi, Gozo at the weekend, with a programme of activities held both inside and outside the church.

The traditional water games are always a popular event on the programme and there were hold on Sunday afternoon in the picturesque bay of Xlendi.It was perfect weather and there was a large turn-out to watch the fun and to cheer on the competitors.

The rope competition opened the games, this is where participants have to to climb up a rope hanging down to the sea from another rope strewn across the bay, with the aim of grabbing one of the five flags attached on the horizontal rope.The Gostra (40ft slippery pole) competition followed, always much anticipated and undoubtedly the highlight of the afternoon’s games, with three flags to be reached along the pole, this was achieved by the winner Steve Xuereb.
