The Armed Forces of Malta rescued two Italians after the yacht they were on caught fire earlier this morning.
The AFM Operations Centre received an emergency call just before 9am asking for assistance for that a yacht had caught fire approximately 12 nautical miles to the north of Gozo.
The AFM rescue helicopter and the search and rescue launch Melita II, were dispatched to the scene. The Italians had left the yacht to escape the fire and were seen in the area on a small dinghy.
Melita II arrived on scene shortly afterwards and took the men to Hay-Wharf, where an ambulance was waiting to transfer them to Mater Dei Hospital.
