For the second consecutive year Gozo has won an award for the quality and variety of its unique coastal features, this time it was the Gold Coast Quality Award.
The islands of Gozo and Comino were placed jointly in third place among 100 coastal destinations around Europe chosen as the best sustainable tourism destinations.
The Quality Coast Awards aim to promote coastal destinations offering panoramic views and natural landscapes, along with other factors such as uniqueness, local, natural and cultural heritage and a clean marine environment.
The Azores and Lerapetra in Greece ranked first and second place respectively.
The Quality Coast Awards are considered highly prestigious and aim to guide tourism operators in their choice of sustainable destinations to offer tourists who choose these types of destinations. In the process of selecting these destinations, the EUCC (Coastal & Marine Union), which is the main operator of Quality Coast Awards, carried out extensive evaluation exercises which were conducted by an independent jury.
These exercises are based on 20 different test indicators, notably nature, environment, identity, society and economy. This year, a total of 800 locations were evaluated and the top 100 were chosen to participate.
The Minister for Gozo, Giovanna Debono, was presented with a certificate and flag as a symbol of this award from the International Ambassador of the EUCC, Dr.Marlyse Cremers.
While expressing her great appreciation of this award, the Minister said that it is an additional tool to aid in the promotion of Gozo and Comino as a tourist destination.
This is the second year that Gozo has been nominated to participate in the Quality Coast Awards, and last year Gozo and Comino obtained the Bronze Award.
We got these awards Thanks to the NGO`s for fighting tiresly against the so called developments like Hondoq and Ramla l Hamra
If it wasn`t for them Hondoq and Ramla will have been covered with concrete
Just look at the reasons why this award was given. Panoramic views and natural landscapes, uniqueness, local, natural and cultural heritage and a clean marine environment. These areas need protection in order to retain what they have now, not development. Places like Hondoq have already been developed, by nature, and this award proves that it did a good job.
Amazing!!! how stupid the Gozo Curia is still pushing to continue building that resting place with 630 tombs just a few meters away from Ramla coast specially now that this beach was awarded the Gold Coast Quality Award, Well done NGO”s.

Even the dead have the eternal right to enjoy a plot with a view. Heavens does exist. There would certainly be a section dedicated to Curia members, that is priests. I haven`t seen the plans or location, but if it is similar to Qala cemetary I will give the bishop three cheers.
