The sports complex in Victoria is currently undergoing extensive restructuring and maintenance work involving an investment of around € 420,000.
The Ministry for Gozo said in a statement today that this project will improve the environment for sports enthusiasts in Gozo to practice their respective disciplines.
After the roof maintenance work on the main hall of the complex is completed, a new aluminum roof will be installed to cover the existing one. The new roof will also allow photovoltaic panels ato be installed.
Work is also underway on the electricity system, on the roof gutters, as well as work on the parquet flooring. The next phase of works will include the installation of windows in the sides of the hall and fitting transparent polycarbonate sheeting on the side of the complex with the aim of making the best use of natural light, which will result in a decrease in the electricity consumption.
The Minister for Gozo, Giovanna Debono visited the works in progress and commented “that sport is a leading promoter in society and helps lead to a healthier lifestyle.” She added that “sport is an integral part of the eco-Gozo project because it offers a better quality of life to those who practice it.”
“This structural work will further improve the facilities and services offered to all those who attend this complex,” the Minister said.
The upgraded facilities are also expected offer a more welcoming environment to the children who will be participating in another edition of Skola Sport which resumes this November.
It offers several sports disciplines and applications for Skola Sport will be accepted in September, with a choice that includes hip-hop, breakdance, table and lawn tennis, biking, climbing, gymnastics, martial arts and football skills.
Transportation is provided free from all localities in Gozo to the Sports Complex and back. Skola Sport Sessions will be held every Saturday between November and May.

How long has this complex been in place ??
The roof has been leaking for a long time now with buckets of water being put on the floor everytime rain starts.WHY ??
Who did the work did a good job.?? Did it had guarantee on it?
It`s a shame that we taxpayers have to foot the bill for this roof when it should lasted for much longer time.
I am personally anxious to get an answer from the gozo ministry in regards my questions.
