The MUT is to meet with Education Minister Owen Bonnici this week regarding the proposal to open Skolasajf, during which it will be requesting risk assessments for each centre
The Union said that it will be voicing its concerns regarding the proposed opening, particularly the safeguards being taken to ensure hygiene and social distancing, thereby, “the well-being of educators and students.”
It explained that although schools have an obligation for risk assessment to be in place, the MUT is requesting that, given the present COVID-19 situation, a fresh risk assessment is carried out for all schools which will be serving as Skolasajf centres.
The introduction of an inspectorate is also being requested by the MUT, which will determine whether centres can be opened in accordance with the established criteria as outlined in the new risk assessment document, the Union said.
It also stressed that, “this inspectorate should also have the powers to close centres which do not meet the requested criteria.”
The MUT said that it will update its members in a dedicated meeting.
