Abi Macleod Clark is an English mosaic artist with a passion to present art in a fun and light hearted manner, to give the passer by the chance to come across something they might not have seen before.

An Open House Exhibiton, entitled ‘4 artists, 3 days, 1 house, number 23,’ has been put together by Abi with four very diffrent styles of work in mind, under water images, taken from the seas aroung Gozo, mosaics made from 100% found and reclaimed objects, canvas full of texture inspired by nature in Gozo and fun fish with a UK twist.

This will be the second exhibition on this style organised by Abi, the first one being during Notte Gozitana held in May. Abbi said that she likes to display the work in a house of character, which as well as creating atmosphere also gives visitors to the exhibition a chance to have a look around.

Abi has a background in art and design which includes an ND in Art and a HND in Theatre Design. Her mosaics are based on the materials that she has collected from both the local environment and past treasures. She said that her kittens have also helped by breaking many of her plates and mugs! This was also helped by the kindness of her friends donating their old crockery. Abi said that she has also been influenced as always by the culture she is surrounded by and inspiration comes from various avenues. Being inspired by things from the walk to school with her children, the funny things people say, to the magnificent churches that are all around us.

The other artists involved in the exhibition are Louise Partrigde, Emma Borg and Mick Hollis.

Louise is inspired by her love of landscape, nature, travel, mythological tales, folklore and history, the themes which reoccur throughout her work. She studied narrative painting and illustration at the Uuniversity of Westminster and this has strongly influenced her work with each piece telling a story.

Emma qualified in art at Exmounth Community College in the UK and likes to paint in modern abstract and contemporary style. Emma finds this relaxing to do as well as look at. Emma said that as she is calm by nature her paintings reflex that quality. She loves to work with acrylics and her work is popular with the local people and also with foreign customers.

Mick arrived in Gozo with his wife 7 years ago and it was in his first few years living in Xewkija that he discovered the joys of diving. having never done it before. Once he felt that he had become at one with the water the next step for him was to capture the world under the sea and invested in his first underwater camera.

Mick said that taking photos and diving is purely a hobby for him, but he feels that he has a natural eye for capturing a different side of life, which is something that really makes his work unique. This will be the first time that Mick has displayed any of his work, or had them blown up and put onto canvas as part of an exhibiton.

‘4 artists, 3 days,1 house, number 23,’ is being held at 23 Aguis de Solandis Street (off Palm Street) between the 13th and 15th of August. The opening hours are from 9.00am-1.00pm and 4.00pm till late.
