Update: The Malta Airport MetOffice said today that due to an unstable air mass over the Tyrrhenian Sea – as can be seen in image from MetOffice Weather Radar where Northwest of Sicily is partially covered – weather conditions in the central Mediterranean area will continue to be volatile.
“This air mass will start moving towards the central Mediterranean later on tonight. The weather over the Maltese Islands from the early hours of Saturday will become cloudy with showers locally thundery.
“It is expected that the weather will remain unstable throughout Saturday evening. The wind will be rather strong from the West Northwest and temperatures will be cooler for this time of the year. The outlook for Sunday is partly cloudy,” The MetOffice said.
Update: The Civil Protection Department has this afternoon issued a warning to the general public to be aware that the storms that occur across the islands at this time of the year can be sudden and intense
The Department is encouraging the public to take any preventative and precautionary steps that are necessary and to be cautious if driving or walking in areas that are affected by the storms, particularly where water can collect and also not to leave furniture and items exposed to the strong winds that may build up.
