‘The Art and Life of George Fenech 1926-2011’ is a series of exhibitions, supported by Bank of Valletta, which have been taking place around the Maltese islands in memory of the late renowned artist George Fenech.

The last of the three exhibitons is taking place at the Ministry for Gozo Exhibition Hall in St Francis Square, Victoria and was inaugurated by Federick Azzopardi, Parliamentary Assistant within the Ministry for Gozo.

Born in Mellieha in January 1926, the artist started painting as a child. He then studied under the guidance of Vincent Apap and Emvin Cremona at the Malta Government School of Art. After winning a scholarship, he moved on to study at the Reggia di Belle Arti in Rome.Highly influenced by his surroundings, Fenech’s works include myriad subjects. He painted still-lifes, portraits and landscapes – mostly influenced by the farmhouses and valleys that surround his birth place.

In July 1977, Fenech was also commissioned to design a set of 2 stamps for MaltaPost featuring “Is-Salini” and “Ta’ l-Isperanza.”

A collection of George Fenech’s paintings has been put together in a publication launched at the National Museum of Fine Arts. This book is the first comprehensive study on his art and life.

The exhibition will remain open until Sunday, the 21st of October during office hours
