Gozo’s Leone Band is celebrating its 150th foundation anniversary. As part of the celebration year, the band is presenting its annual symphonic concert at the Aurora Opera House next Saturday, November 3rd, at 8pm under the baton of Colin Attard.

The Leone Band in concert, will feature a number of musical pieces from the popular 20th century classic repertoire. This year’s programme includes the ceremonious Spitfire Prelude by Sir William Walton, a selection from Puccini’s Turandot in a celebratory toast for the Theatre’s opera production that took place earlier this month, the overture from Ben Hur, Jan Van der Roost’s mellow Canterbury Chorale (directed by Asst. Conductor Joseph Debrincat), highlights from the distinguished Afro-American opera Porgy and Bess by George Gerswhin and the final show-piece by Alfred Reed; The First Suite for Band, which will take the audience through a breathtaking musical trip with a march, a melody, a rag and a gallop.

The concert is taking place at the Aurora Theatre and the doors will be open at 7.30pm.

The concert will be commemorating the 62nd anniversary of Proclamation of the Catholic Dogma of the Assumption (1.XI.1950). Entrance is free of charge with seating on a first-come-first-served basis.
