Alternattiva Demokratika – The Green Party affirmed today “that it is the only party for full voting rights for 16-year-old persons.”

Michael Briguglio, AD chairperson, said, “AD believes in youth empowerment and in full participation of young people in the democratic process. It is for this reason that we are the only party proposing that young people aged 16 onwards should have the right to vote in general, european and local elections. We invite PN and PL to endorse this proposal in time for upcoming general elections.”

Reuben Zammit, AD spokesperson for youth and ADZ chairperson, said, “With the country gearing up for election mode, society is yet again set to lose the valuable contribution of our younger citizens, who are once more being made to watch helplessly from the sidelines. We insist on wider suffrage since we believe the average 16-year-old’s vote to be as well-reasoned and rational as and certainly no more prejudiced than the average 60 year-old.”
