The military to military relationship between the Armed Forces of Malta and the US military was strengthened further this week with the handing over of 30 sets of Night Vision Goggles and other communications gear by the US Government.

Valued at more than US$ 630,000 the recently donated equipment will assist the Armed Forces of Malta in the execution of their duties particularly in the area of border control. The latest US donation is part of a larger grants package spread over the 2011 and 2012 Fiscal Years.

In total the package totals more than US$ 4.7m and will include two 9-meter Defender Class Response Boats complete with thermal image sensors, trucks and trailers and associated training.

The 9-meter Defender Class Boats are expected to be delivered by the third quarter of the year 2013 whilst the two tow trucks are expected in Malta early next year.
