Update: A record sum of €975,401 million was collected during the 17th edition of the 15 hour televised marathon.

Dar tal-Providenza has opened its doors today to host thousands of people for the Festa ta’ Generozità organised by RTK4Charity to collect funds for the Homes.

It needs €10,000 daily to keep operating and Id-Dar tal-Providenza is requesting that the Maltese people help out by donating money.

The live television broadcast started at 9.00am with Holy Mass from the chapel of the Home and will continue up to just after midnight when the total sum collected during the day will be announced.

Also taking place during today’s Festa ta’ Generozità, will be an auction of art by over seventy local and foreign artists who have donated one or more pieces of art to be auctioned for the charity event. All of which will be on display at Id-Dar tal-Providenza.

The auction will be held online at www.dartalprovidenzaauctions.com. Today there will also be the possibility to bid by phone or in person.

Personalities visiting the Home during this event today will include the President of Malta, Dr George Abela; the Prime Minister, Dr Lawrence Gonzi; the Leader of the Opposition, Dr Joseph Muscat; the Archbishop, Mons. Pawl Cremona; Auxillary Bishop Mgr Charles Scicluna, the Bishop of Gozo, Mons. Mario Grech and the Archbishop Emeritus, Mgr Joseph Mercieca.

During the day, the televised programme will include entertainment provided by the top singers on the island, various entertainers and village bands to create a festive family atmosphere.

During the afternoon there will also be fun and games for children. A shuttle service is being provided to the Home from the main square in Siggiewi as well as from the old runway on Triq San Niklaw that is being turned into a parking lot.

This is being done to encourage drivers to park in these sites and avoid the usual congestion that clogs the only road that leads to Dar tal-Providenza.
