The Victory Philharmonic Society of Xaghra Gozo (A.D. 1898) announces that it has recently appointed Ivan Attard A.MusTCL as its new Assistant Music Director.

Ivan Attard, born in Xaghra in 1989, started his musical studies in pianoforte and theory of music at age 7, first under the guidance of Sr. Annunziatina Darmanin and later under the tuition of Sr. Giovanna Francesca Curmi. He passed successfully all graded examinations in piano and theory of music, up to and including Grade 8. Under the guidance of Mro. Joseph Grech, Ivan studied music harmony and counterpoint and in November 2010, he obtained the Associate Diploma from the Trinity College of London.

Ivan continued to deepen his music studies and started to explore the organ technique. The organ is the most suitable instrument to be used during the Liturgy. At present, Ivan Attard performs in various churches around Gozo, mainly the National Sanctuary of the Assumption of Our Lady ‘Ta’ Pinu’ where he performs on Sundays and feast days, the Church of the Franciscan Friars in Victoria and the Collegiate, Basilica and Sanctuary of the Nativity of Our Lady in Xaghra Gozo of which he is one of the main organists. He is also the organist of the Voci Angeliche Choir of Xaghra Parish, the Xaghra Collegiate Chapter’s organist and Music Director of the Nativitas Choir which belongs to the Victory Philharmonic Society.

Besides the piano and the organ, Ivan also plays the tenor saxophone with the Victory Band and is currently undergoing studies in violin as the third musical instrument which he loves so much. Ivan Attard is also futhering his studies in music composition and music direction.

The Victory Philharmonic Society of Xaghra greets Ivan Attard A.MusTCL on his appointment as its new Assistant Music Director and wishes him more fruitful years of work for its benefit.
