The Prime Minister Dr Lawrene Gonzi, received a warm welcome upon his arrival in Nadur this morning for the PN Party’s first mass meeting on Gozo for this election campaign.

Continuing the activities in Gozo, this morning, Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi together with Mrs Gonzi and Deputy Party Leader Simon Busuttil, continued meeting with the people of Gozo and then kicked off a dialogue in the Nadur Square.

The meeting’s highlight was the recently announced projects for Gozo. A project which will see a Gozo Tourism Plan come into action to facilitate and sustain Gozo’s tourism. A proposal for more incentives for businesses in Gozo including income tax reductions and a decrease in license fees. And a proposal to create a Regional Council for Gozo which will mean Gozo will be legally recognised as an island region.

Lawrence Gonzi also mentioned the risks in Labour’s energy proposals, which will eventually lead to the rise of either the electricity bills or an increase of some other form of tax. “On the other hand, a PN government will keep the promise to always offer electricity at the least possible cost.”

He explained how one bad move, “as big as Labour’s wrongly estimated proposal, could end up destroying Malta’s economy, an economy which has also been praised by Angela Merkel, Germany’s Chancellor.”

The Prime Minister continued, “A PN government will continue working hard to reinforce the economy and creating a Safe and Secure Future, creating more jobs, more opportunities in education and even better healthcare.”

“The Nationalist Government is also currently considering possible options for the construction of a tunnel between Malta and Gozo, which would facilitate investment and employment in Gozo. A call for tender to carry out studies on connections between the two islands had been issued,” the Prime Minister said.

i would not take much notice of what Angela Merkel has to say,
look what happened the last time a German chancellor took an interest in Malta.
and has for Mr Gonzi drumming up support in Gozo, judging by the queue’s for the ferry’s to Malta last night he brought his Maltese supporters with him.
