Xaghra Carnival organised by the Xaghra Local Council

As in previous years, the Xaghra Local Council has organised various activities which will be taking place during Carnival 2013 in the village.
Applications for the Carnival competitions will open on Monday, the 28th of January and close on Thursday, the 7th of February.
The programme of activities will be as follows:
Saturday 9th February: Carnival Saturday.
From 7.30pm onwards: A varied Carnival programme in Nazzarenu Square with the participation of local dance companies, competitions for the best costume in show, the traditional kukkanja and the traditional kumittiva dance.
The Gozitan traditional ftira will be on sale. A free glass of wine will be given to the audience present.
The special guest of the event will be Maltese singer Marisa D’Amato together with its band. Tony Grech and Orietta Gatt will present this programme.
Sunday 10th February: Carnival Sunday.
10.30am: Carnival band marches by the Victory Band of Xaghra, starting from near Ta’ Kola Windmill in Bambina Street along Frangisk Camilleri Street, Imqades Street, 8th September Avenue and Victory Square.
From noon onwards: A varied Carnival programme in Victory Square including defile of Carnival floats, dance by local companies and the traditional kumittiva dance. The prinjolata will be given, free of charge, to the audience present. Popular Maltese singer Renato together with Francesca Zarb will present this event.
