The Prime Minister, Dr Lawrence Gonzi, this morning attended a business breakfast in Marsalforn organised by the PN Party as part of its campaign, those attended included social partners and organisations from around Gozo
The Prime Minister said said that the main objective in the new legislature would be to stimulate tourism and business in Gozo.
“Gozo, is a jewel that we need to take good care of and strive to see it moving forward,” the Prime Minister stated.
He reiterated that a PN Goverment would allocate 10% of EU funds to Gozo over the next five years.
The Prime Minister said the PN plan for Gozo is to encourage more tourists to the island and it proposes to increase the number of five star hotels, add more facilities for conferences and plans further infrastructure projects.
“The PN promises to keep Gozo in the centre of its policies because we truly value its worth and its potential,” the Prime Minister said.
“Indeed, Gozo is very special both for us local tourists and those foreign,” the Prime Minister continued. “Which is why a Government led by Partit Nazzjonalista continued to improve infrastructure and help the island enhance its natural beauty during the past 5 years.”
Lawrence Gonzi said that he believes that with responsible choices, “we can continue to showcase Gozo’s potential which ultimately leads to another leap in the quality of life for Gozitans.”
“We now have 11,400 people in profitable employment that resulted from an increase of 700 new jobs in Gozo.
“200 Gozitan companies are benefitting from €1.2 million in tax credit thanks to the MicroInvest scheme,” Dr Gonzi said.
He mentioned more investment incentives for new businesses in Gozo and the creation of a Business Park at the Xewija Industrial Estate for new offices and factories.
“A permanent link between the two islands, such as a tunnel,” Dr Gonzi said, “will see a transformation in the island of Gozo.”
From Marsalforn the PM went on to visit the ongoing project at Zewwieqa waterfront in Mgarr Gozo and he will also meet students at Sir. M.A. Refalo School in Victoria.

He is making this sound as if it’s a done deal, vote PN and you will get a tunnel. The fact is this is not a done deal, far from it, as there hasn’t even been a study to establish if the idea is feasible nor have any studies been done with regard to costing. So this is nothing more than the same hot air that was wafting around the Eco-Gozo idea during the last election campaign. That coupled with the debt he has sunk the country into means that no such link will happen anytime soon.
