Update: Following a sitting which started this afternoon, presided by Chief Justice Silvio Camilleri, Mr Justice Noel Cuschieri and Mr Justice Giannino Caruana Demajo, the court will rule tomorrow on the recount requests made by the Nationalist Party for the thirteenth and eighth districts.
A recount of the 13th district, Gozo and Comino, is expected today following a formal request by the the Nationalist Party after it lost the majority of the former PN stronghold by nine votes.
The PN issued a statement saying that “their was an error with the count of ten votes for PN candidate Paul Buttigieg had been lost which resulted in the Party losing the third seat by nine votes.”
As the count has now been completed, a re-count can only be ordered by the Constitutional Court. The PN statement said that an urgent request to do so has already been made.
The majority was also lost in the eighth district to the Labour Party by eight votes and PN have again put in a formal request for a recount for this district, with reports saying that a packet of fifty votes had been transferred by mistake.
