Retail Price Index edged up slightly by 0.08% in FebruaryAccording to figures released from the National Statistics Office, in February, the Retail Price Index went up by 0.08 per cent. This primarily reflected an increase of 2.30 per cent in the Clothing and Footwear Index, mainly due to seasonally higher prices of garments.

An increase of 0.40 per cent was registered in the Food Index, mainly due to higher prices for served meals. Costlier household appliances brought about a rise of 0.29 per cent in the Household Equipment and House Maintenance Cost Index.

An upward movement in the price of wines, among others, caused the Beverages and Tobacco Index to go up by 0.25 per cent. Higher prices of hygienic articles underlay an increase of 0.20 per cent in the Personal Care and Health Index.

Discounted prices of motor vehicles brought about a decrease of 0.64 per cent in the Transport and Communication Index. Lower gas prices caused the Water, Electricity, Gas and Fuels Index to go down by 0.61 per cent.

A decrease of 0.21 per cent was registered in the Other Goods and Services Index, mainly due to a drop in the price of jewellery.

In February, the twelve-month moving average rate of inflation stood at 2.40 per cent, whereas the annual rate stood at 1.84 per cent.
