International call to be issued in April for gas powered plantThe Energy Minister Konrad Mizzi announced yesterday that there will be an international call for expression in April to construct a gas powered power station as per the Government plans.

The Minister said the Malta Resources Authority will act as an operator with a group of experts that will be created to focus on energy policies

Speaking at a conference on sustainable energy, the Minister also announced that he will be in an office, set up at the Delimara power station, to ensure the Government’s plan of using gas in place of heavy fuel oil is correctly implemented.

      And just how much is this archaic (as opposed to futuristic) project is going to cost? Who’s paying the bill? And have they been consulted?
      Couldn’t those millions of Euros be used to equip every village on Gozo with photovoltaics and to train local people to install and maintain these pieces of equipment? This would give jobs an also secure the future as well as the independence of the island. Wouldn’t it ?
      The sun is an asset, readily available here, many countries would love to have at their disposal to free themselves from the old (and soon obsolete) fossil energy, be it gas or oil.
