Judge Giovanni Bonello to head Justice Reform Commission

The Justice Reform Commission was announced this morning by the Parliamentary Secretary for Justice Dr Owen Bonnici. The Commission will, as promised in the PL electoral manifesto, reform the judicial system in Malta.

Dr Bonnici said that the Commission mandate will be cover a wide-ranging review of the judicial system.

The Commission, which is to be headed by the retired European Court judge Dr Giovanni Bonello, will submit its report within three months. This will then be followed by a public consultation. The sittings will, as much as possible, be held in public, with the action implemented before the end of the year.

Other members that will form the Justice Reform Commission are, retired judge Philip Schiberras, along with lawyers Kevin Aquilina and Ramona Frendo.
