4-hand piano recital enjoyed by many at Gaulitana FestivalThe Gozo Ministry Hall in Victoria recently hosted a 4-hand piano recital as part of the ongoing Gaulitana: A Festival of Music 2013, by two duos: Mro Giuseppe Fricelli, the well-renowned piano teacher at the Conservatorio L. Cherubini of Florence and his top student Daria Aleshina and Sara Palumbo and Alessandria Di Nardo, another two of Fricelli’s students.

Fricelli, Aleshina and Palumbo were making a welcome return to Gaulitana: A Festival of Music after their successful appearance last year.

The first part of the recital saw Fricelli and Aleshina performing Mira il tuo popolo – an adaptation of a liturgical hymn by Frazzi and Fricelli – Weber’s 6 Petites pieces faciles and Schumann’s 6 Impromptus Bilder aus Osten. The second part of the concert was taken up by Palumbo and Di Nardo who played Ravel’s Ma mère l’oye and Moszkowski’s Habanera.

At the conclusion of the concert, Mro Fricelli thanked Gaulitana artistic director, Mro Colin Attard, for once again inviting him and his students for the festival and presented him with a copy of his recent piano work entitled Budapest.

This excerpt, was composed specifically for a concert Fricelli is giving in Budapest in the coming days for the President of Hungary, Jamos Ader – to whom the work is dedicated. Fricelli than surprised all by playing the work as an encore – which proved to be its world premier and indeed an anteprima of the Hungarian concert.

Gaulitana: A Festival of Music 2013 continues tomorrow, Tuesday, the 2nd of April at the Ministry for Gozo Hall, starting at 8.00pm with: ‘Opera But not only!’ The concert features – Aurora Tirotta, (soprano), Lara Torili (mezzo soprano) and Angela Zaccaria (Piano).
