The Prime Minister Joseph Muscat has said today that through an investment of € 200 million by the private sector in health, “the Government is going to ensure that not only will health care remain free, and that all workers will remain with the Government, but also quality care will be introduced in all hospitals in our country. This will be a quantum leap in the health sector,” he said.
Dr Muscat made the announcement while he was answering the questions from ONE TV journalist Janice Bartolo, during a political activity held at Luqa.
The Prime Minister explained that by agreement with the Queen Mary University of London, they will be opening a medical school in Gozo, and through this medical school foreign investment will be attracted, it will be aimed at targeting foreign students.
The Government announced last September that talks were at an advanced stage for the Medical School, following a visit to the Barts Medical School in London, by President Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca.
The Prime Minister said that not only will a new hospital be built in Gozo, but also St Luke’s and the Karen Grech Hospital will be refurbished to bring them to the same level as, or better than, the Mater Dei Hospital.
