The Ministry for Gozo has announced that tenders will be received up to 10.00 a.m. of Tuesday, the 23rd of April 2013, for the cleaning of the following valleys in Gozo:
Advt. No. EGRD 25/2013. Cleaning of Ghasri Valley, and other sites as directed by the ecoGozo Regional Development Directorate.
Advt. No. EGRD 26/2013. Cleaning of Wied il-Kbir, l/o San Lawrenz and other sites as directed by the ecoGozo Regional Development Directorate.
Advt. No. EGRD 27/2013. Cleaning of Valley at Tal-Barumbara, Ghajnsielem, and other sites as directed by the ecoGozo Regional Development Directorate.
Advt. No. EGRD 28/2013. Cleaning of Wied l-Infern, Zebbug, and other sites as directed by the ecoGozo Regional Development Directorate.
Offers and related documents are to be placed in the Tender Box at the Department of Corporate Services, Ministry for Gozo, Victoria.
Offers shall be valid for a period of six months, inclusive of Value Added Tax, and any other charges if applicable.
The Ministry for Gozo reserves the right to refuse even the most advantageous offer.

Only submissions on the prescribed form will be considered.
Surely the issuing of tenders and eventual payment to some group or other only encourages certain individuals to continue using the countryside as a dumping ground. Probably the very people who will be paid to clean it up are using it as a dump! There are plenty of NGO’s and other groups around the island who could probably put together groups of people more than happy to clean these areas free of charge if the local councils could provide the vehicles to take the stuff away. Just an idea. Could I also suggest that the bags of stuff are opened and checked for anything that could identify the dumper before being taken away. This evidence could be photographed and used in a court case to help recover costs for the clean-up from the people responsible.

What ever happened to the Environment Wardens that we were suppose to be having, to stop the illegal dumping and make Gozo a real eco island
